News update (07/20/07): The Least Restrictive Environment II is up (!) and (mostly) functional. We're still working out categorization and a few other things. Posting functions work for all registered members.
So please join other parents, professionals, friends, and people like me who grew up diagnosed with one or more of the conditions I cover. Especially if you're sick of the saccharin attitudes and platitudes, and the dearth of factual information about symptoms, treatment options and coping strategies for:
- Rett Syndrome
- Autism
- Epilepsy
- Other movement disorders (cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, ataxia, apraxia / dyspraxia, etc.)
- Sensory integration disorder
- Twice exceptional kids
- ADHD & Learning Disabilities
- Kids with so-called "adult" mental illnesses. (Depression. Bipolar. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Generalized Anxiety. Schizophrenia. And so forth.)
- Dietary issues (PKU. Celiac disease. Special diets for other conditions we deal with)
- Cognitive disabilities
- Chromosomal Disorders (Down's Syndrome, William's Syndrome, Prader-Willi, Angelman Syndrome, Noonan's and the like)
- Dealing with your child's IEP and other aspects of the educational bureaucracy
- And whatever else comes up
Right now Least Restrictive Environment is pretty autistic-heavy and female-heavy, and one woman with AS said that it's a really good place for women on the spectrum. No one wants to exclude men, but she suggested I put that up here. So: LRE is a good place for women on the autism spectrum. Or close to the spectrum.
I don't claim to know diddly crap about some of the above, but I do know a hell of a lot about a few of them. E.g. autism, epilepsy and explaining what "appropriate" means for a particular child to people who care only about test scores, and not that child's future.
